Hi, my name is Britney Keyser and I’m 22 years old from California. My 6-year-old dog, Rocket, suddenly started limping 3 weeks ago. I took him to the vet 2 days after it began, and he was prescribed pain medicine. It did help at first, but when his medicine ran out after 10 days, his pain came back much worse than before. Yesterday, I took him to a different vet where they performed x-rays, and that is where I learned some of the worst possible news I could’ve ever imagined.
Rocket has bone cancer that's grown into a tumor in his left shoulder. Osteosarcoma. He’ll only have maybe 2 months to live at most before the pain becomes too unbearable for him. Now, his quality of life has been significantly reduced from the pain. My family and I want to proceed with getting a biopsy to see what stage the bone cancer is and if treatment is a viable option for him. With amputation and chemo, his quality of life can improve drastically, and his lifespan can increase to an average of a year, but maybe more. Then, my family and I can give him the best final year of his life he could ever have and more than deserves. This all happened so suddenly; we aren’t ready to say goodbye to him, but we are not able to afford the total costs of his tests, surgery, and treatment. My family and I are picking up any extra shifts we can to try to reach the amount we need. This is why we are asking for any help we can get.
The quotes from the vet state that the cost of the biopsy and bloodwork will be around $650.38 - $942.38. The cost for the surgery will be $3,370.90, meaning the cost for both could be anywhere from $4,021.28 to $4,313.28. After this we will have to worry about chemo costs but for now this is the main goal. Any donations are extremely appreciated, and if you are unable to donate, any shares also help a lot. Thank you for reading.
Update: Thank you so much for all of the support! Rocket will be receiving his biopsy tomorrow morning June 20th. Thank you everyone for making this possible ❤️
