Help Save Rocket – A Little Dog With a Big Heart
Rocket is not just a dog, he’s a fighter, a healer, and a true lifesaver. This small Chihuahua mix has a heart far bigger than his tiny frame, and right now, he needs our help to keep fighting.
His life didn’t start out easy. Rocket chose his mom, Brooke, in Mississippi. He lived at her neighbor’s house in terrible conditions, neglected, underweight, and surrounded by addiction. He began sneaking over every night, so Brooke started leaving her patio door open. Soon, he was sleeping in her bed, getting baths, and being fed the love and care he’d been missing. When Brooke moved, Rocket jumped right into her car and they drove off together to start a new life.
Even after experiencing pain, abandonment, and being left outside in the rain, Rocket has never stopped loving. He greets everyone with warmth, kisses, and tail wags, and he has stood by Brooke’s side through every chapter of her life through joy, heartbreak, and even her darkest battles with addiction.
Recently, Rocket was diagnosed with TCC (Transitional Cell Carcinoma), a type of bladder cancer in dogs. This disease grows in the bladder, making it painful and difficult to go to the bathroom. Left untreated, it will worsen and become fatal within 2-4 months but with radiation treatment, Rocket has a fighting chance at many more happy years. Unfortunately, the cost of this treatment is upwards of $20,000, far beyond what his family can afford alone.
Rocket’s story is nothing short of miraculous. In one unforgettable moment, he literally saved Brooke’s life, when she overdosed, he clawed at her chest so hard it bled, keeping her conscious long enough to call for help. Without Rocket, she may not be here today.
When Brooke’s sister Jill tragically passed last year, Rocket knew. He stayed pressed against her the entire next day, using his whole weight to keep her grounded. He was one of the biggest reasons Brooke didn’t fall back into addiction, his love and loyalty became an anchor when grief threatened to pull her under.
Rocket anticipates Brooke’s needs, and they share a daily routine. He camps with her, hikes with her, kayaks with her, and until recently, went to work with her every day. All her friends know and love him. He stole the heart of his other mom, Elsa, (who once feared dogs) turning fear into love. He greets his Aunt Lauren with joyful whimpers and has brought endless comfort to his grandparents, Sherry and Brad, giving them peace of mind that Brooke is never truly alone.
Everyone who meets Rocket knows the warmth of his welcome, his cuddles, and his boundless love. He has been a light in dark times, a source of laughter and joy, and living proof of how deeply animals can change and even save lives.
Rocket still has so much life left to live. He still has more love to give, more people to comfort, more sunny spots to nap in, and more adventures to share. We refuse to give up on him now.
Please consider donating to help give Rocket the treatment he needs. Every dollar brings us closer to giving this incredible little soul more time to make the world a better place, one kiss, cuddle, and wag at a time.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping us save Rocket.
