Hello, my name is Robyn. I’m a disabled trans person in the US and I am desperate to escape. With the multitude of laws being passed to silence, harm, and ban our existence and the Lemkin Institute’s red flag warning for genocide against trans people, I am becoming incredibly anxious and constantly stressed.
I have an escape route to another country and have already submitted a visa application. I am fortunate to have an educational background allowing me entry to look for work. To get myself and my spouse there and sustain ourselves until we find work, I need to raise and save $10,000. I know it is so cliche to say, but if you even have $5, it would mean so much.
In addition to working full time and saving funds as I can, I am also applying for loans, working side jobs in marketing, and applying for jobs in the destination country which would significantly decrease the amount needed to leave. If you can't afford to donate, but can share or connect me with someone who needs some side jobs done, that is more than appreciated!
A little about me - I am an activist and working to help others evacuate as well. I run an organization called the Alliance for Gender Diversity where I am working to try and build North America’s first transgender, intersex, and nonbinary museum of history and art. It’s a huge undertaking, and this move will not at all stop me from making this dream a reality. I work at a wildlife center where I help connect the public to California's native wildlife and I spend a lot of time contributing citizen science for NASA and iNaturalist projects. I also do citizen archivist projects through the National Archives and Smithsonian. My academic research has focused on Radical Accessibility beyond compliance, and I am currently writing more on this topic to be published and sent to museums around the country.
In any free time I have left, my spouse and I watch movies, gush over our guinea pigs, and go on adventures (sometimes that just means walk to the grocery store together).
What would being able to move mean to me? Not only would it increase my real and perceived safety, it would open up educational and work opportunities. Better access to healthcare - hopefully enough to even get some answers. It would be less of a financial burden once we arrive compared to where we are living now. It would also free up my time to do more of the volunteer work I love and allow me to help others escape.
