Robin Maya has always been a hard worker, determined to provide a safe and loving home for her two children in the small mountain town of Sparta, North Carolina. Over the years, she saved up to buy her own property and an older single-wide trailer, creating a place her family could call their own. But when hurricane Helen struck Western NC, Robin’s world was turned upside down. A massive tree, snapped by the storm’s fierce winds, crashed down on her trailer, causing extensive damage to both the exterior and interior of her home. While Robin and her children were fortunate to survive, the aftermath was overwhelming. Her insurance company paid out only a fraction of what was needed for repairs and then dropped her coverage entirely. When she turned to FEMA for help, she was denied, leaving her to face the mounting repairs alone. Robin took on two full-time jobs, determined to fix her home and keep her family together, all while managing the daily challenges of raising her children and paying the bills.
Just as she was making progress, Robin’s health began to decline. Rapid weight loss and repeated hospital visits led to a diagnosis for a debilitating illness. Despite her illness, she continued working and caring for her children, never losing hope. Recently, the situation became even more difficult when DSS became involved and her children were removed from her care until she can meet their requirements.
Robin is facing more than anyone should have to bear alone. Donations to this fundraiser will go directly toward repairing her home, easing the burden of medical bills, and helping her take the steps needed to bring her family back together. Anything you can give will be appreciated more than words can express. Robin would never ask for help herself, but as her sister, I am reaching out on her behalf. Your support can make a real difference in her life and help her family find hope again.
