Hi everyone. My name is Michelle. My family and Robin's family have been friends for many years. I've watched Robin grow from a cute little kid to the impressive woman she is today; big-hearted, determined, and beautiful inside and out.
Last October, Robin was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer. After her previous (successful) battle with breast cancer only a few short years before, this came as quite a shock, but she faced this new battle with the bold determination and unflappable courage I've come to recognize as pure Robin.
She's had a helluva fight, too:
5 hospitalizations between October and January (we nearly lost her at the New Year), 5 rounds of aggressive Chemotherapy, 25 radiation treatments, 4 brachytherapy treatments, and intervention radiology to cauterize blood flow to the tumor.
Praise God, in April she was declared cancer free!
As she recovered, Robin tried to go back to work and resume a more normal life, but was still suffering from intense pain and other issues. In June, she spent another 10 days in hospital for septic shock, and learned that the aggressive treatments used to kill her cancer had caused significant damage to her organs. Now she will need surgery to implant a permanent urostomy tube to drain her kidneys, and a permanent colostomy due to fistulas that cannot be repaired.
Unfortunately, Robin has exhausted her paid leave and - though her employer promised to rehire her when she is able to work again - her employment was terminated, taking with it her health coverage as of July 1st.
Robin is filing for SSI/SSDI, which will take time to get approved and in place. In the meantime, without the insurance she cannot get the surgery she needs to function, and COBRA coverage is going to be $1400 per month.
Robin's family has been doing everything they can to help, but the costs of traveling back and forth from Tennessee to be with her and to help with the boys is difficult enough.
I spoke with Robin just two days before writing this, and she sounded JUST like Robin... certain that she will get through this and determined to be here for her boys as they grow up. Her bravery and positive attitude through all of this is beyond humbling.
Because waiting on the government for anything (like SSI/SSDI) is generally a long & drawn-out process, and because I know that Robin has an amazing support system of people praying for her, I've started this fundraiser to help cover the cost of the Cobra, post-surgical supplies, and whatever else she may need.
Any amount will help, obviously, but if just 14 people can give $100 a month we can cover her COBRA and ensure this surgery happens sooner rather than later.
Thank you for your help, and God Bless.
