Hello! My name is Robin and you might know me as a writer, podcaster, streamer, and former video game journalist. I am also a trans woman living in the UK, who has been medically transitioning for 4 years now. At the risk of sounding like a walking cliché, I can honestly say that transitioning has been the best choice I've made for myself. Socially transitioning and starting HRT has opened up my life in a way I struggle to fully articulate, and I feel more assured and confident each day.
To that end, I am hoping to further progress my transition by having gender-affirming surgery - often referred to as "bottom surgery". I've been referred to the Tavistock GIC and am currently on their waiting list, where the estimated waiting time for a first appointment is 12 years .
Next year, I will be 40 years old, and the prospect of waiting more than a decade to even be considered for treatment is unimaginable. That's not even taking into account what the state of trans healthcare on the NHS might be in the future, given the actions of current government (and a possible future Reform government).
I want to have bottom surgery because my current anatomy inhibits me in several important ways. It limits what I can wear, it makes it more difficult to be intimate, and causes me no small amount of dysphoria - not to mention how it makes me feel unsafe in the current political climate. It would be an incredible improvement to my quality of life and my relation to my own body.
It's for this reason that I've made the difficult decision to ask others for help to fund my surgery. I am currently saving as much as I can, but going private for bottom surgery requires a great deal more than I am able to afford on savings alone. I know that the trans community and our allies are some of the most kind, generous people in the world, so I ask humbly for any help you are able to offer.
Thank you so, so much for your time and support!
