Hi family and friends, my name is Mary and I have had the amazing pleasure of knowing Han Luong, my best friend and long-time goober, since middle school.
During our friendship, Han adopted Robin--a young, timid tabby (born 12-17-2009) that expressed her fears by passing gas and running away from the scene of the crime. However, Robin quickly adapted to her new and comfortable life with Han and the rest of their family. Everyone who knows Robin knows that she has many quirky behaviors, which feels like a match made in heaven when you know the eccentricities that make Han so fun and relatable. As a teenager, the Friday afterschool sleepovers that Han and I had would have been incomplete without our wingman Robin, aka "Bean", "Robster", "Stinky", and other nicknames that are far beyond my knowledge (Robin's quite popular).
Living her majestic life as a senior now, Robin is in need of a little more assistance. Related to an undefinable illness that crept up on her a year or so ago, Robin's breathing has gradually become more strained. She eats with difficulty, and our chunky girl has lost several pounds ever since her breathing worsened. Han has never ignored these signs, yet vet visit after vet visit left her with inconclusive results. Han's other attempts at creating a more habitable environment for Robin, such as getting humidifiers and air purifiers for her room, was not in vain but was surely a small distraction to a much bigger problem.
Today (Dec 23rd, 2021), with the impression that Robin was in dire need of another exam, Han brought Robin into a specialty pet healthcare clinic where they insisted Robin stay overnight to run multiple tests and investigate a heart murmur that they detected. To neither of our expectations, the total rounded up to a whopping $8,000, which would cover the cost of Robin's visit and stay at the clinic, and the number of tests they'll be running to simply diagnose her.
As Han and I have grown and traveled away from each other to pursue our own endeavors, Robin was always an easy point of conversation to ground us to our roots. Han has finished her first year as a high school English teacher in Fremont, CA and is just at the dawn of her career as an educator, author, poet and artist. I currently live in Chicago, IL with my sweet little rat terrier/chihuahua mix, Lucy (name courtesy of Han) who is dying to meet Robin. It's still the case that we communicate daily with one another online and with the occasional visit to each other's cities, but I don't have all the details pertaining to Robin's health as I'm not the one going to Robin's vet visits. I would eventually like to pass this page onto Han so she can voice their story and Robin's road to recovery. However for the sake of relieving Han of some of the stress related to this heartbreaking predicament, I wanted to start-up this platform for everyone who knows or would like to know how amazing of a duo Han and Robin are, and would like to contribute to the financial help she will need to get Robin the diagnosis that will hopefully lead to her treatment.
Thank you for taking the time to read Robin's story, and I hope we can all spread the love for Han and Robin.
-Mary
