Help Robin and Glen Conrad with Early Onset Alzheimer's Care
Donation protected
My name is Lisa Sippel. I am setting this go fund me up for my neighbors, Robin and Glen Conrad. We have lived across the street from eachother for 23 years and they are in need of some community support. Below is a message from Robin:
My name is Robin Conrad. I Have been teaching elementary art at Park Avenue Elementary school for the past 28 years. My husband Glen worked as a postman for the Village of Mount Gilead. In September of 2020 my husband began to show noticeable signs of memory loss and was unable to continue to work. Due to the Covid outbreak , I was able to care for him from home. By May of 2021 Glen had been diagnosed with Early-onset Alzheimer's. Early -onset Alzheimer’s is when Alzheimer disease happens in someone younger than 65. A very small number of people have the early -onset form. Glen was diagnosed at age 57.
We live in a rural community, which is both a blessing and a curse. We have had so much support from individuals and organizations in the community. The Mount gilead school system has been amazing at helping me find suitable work solutions so I was still able to care for Glen while continuing working. However with the disease progressing, past solutions are no longer feasible as he now needs full time care.
Coming from a rural community , there is very little support available. Currently, Glen receives meals on wheels, however hasn't received any other support . I have been searching since Glen has been diagnosed for help , however ,even with two different case workers we are unable to find the financial support we need for Glen's care.
The problem is there are very few options for care in our area and the cost for Glen’s care for the next school year will be approximately $30,000 per school year. This is all out of pocket cost. Currently I manage the Mount Gilead pool which allows Glen to be able to be with me to help with expenses , however, this will not cover the care costs.
This has been a very difficult decision to decide to create a go fund me account and ask for help. My hope is that we can raise two years worth of funding for Glen’s care. We appreciate all of the support of our community and Thank You for considering donating.
