Help Robin and Demo Rebuild Their Home

Hi, my name is Sally and you probably don't know me. There's a way better chance that you know Robin and Demo Maratos. And if you know them at all, you know that they're the type of people who make you just flat out grateful that folks like them exist. They are a couple who have devoted their lives- both time and resources-to being advocates. They advocate for animals, they advocate for people, and they advocate for the environment. They rescue dogs from shelters. They run the Vegan Living Program which is a FREE program for anyone who is interested in learning about what it means to be vegan. These are selfless, courageous people who live their lives in a manner meant to help, not hinder, our fellow beings and our planet.

Robin and Demo got hit hard by the recent storm that hit us last week- the fierce remnants of Hurricane Ida. In Demo's own words, read what happened below:

"The amount of rain we got here overwhelmed the drains in the street and on our property and rushed in to the lower level of our home - our finished basement - which includes our office and home gym. Within an hour there was over two feet of water inside. The biggest loss in the office was Robin losing a work computer. Elsewhere our hot water heater and boiler were damaged. The water heater had to be replaced, and the boiler is going to need significant repair before winter. The space also included a refrigerator, irreplaceable personal items, wedding memorabilia, stored clothing, books, home gym equipment, tools, and furniture. Much of it was damaged beyond repair.

The greatest damage was to the space itself. Three feet of drywall and insulation from the floor up on every wall in all of the rooms is to be ripped up to prevent mold from forming. Mud, water and dirt will need to be vacuumed up and the entire space disinfected and thoroughly dried out. Thankfully, that process has started.

An insurance claim has been filed, but our insurance company has already indicated that the most they will cover is only a small fraction of the amount we have already spent to clean up and what we will ultimately have to pay to repair all the damage to the house and replace our belongings."

To anyone who is reading this, it is time to "give back" to two people who spend their lives doing just that. It's an opportunity to help two people who, though you may not know it, strive to help YOU each and every time they fight for a cause that affects you whether it be animals, veganism, or the environment.
