Help the newlyweds raise funds for HELP!
Donation protected
Dear friends:
Yes, Bali is now just weeks away! We are delighted that you are coming. Some of you have asked if we are setting up a gift registry or what you can bring us. Our response is, if you really want to give a wedding gift (over and above your presence, the best gift of all) we would be delighted if you would consider donating to an organization that is very important to us
As you may know, both of us have been involved in refugee issues for the last few years — Sandeep volunteering for two summers at a refugee camp in Greece, and Robin supporting a Jakarta-based refugee learning center, and co-founding a refugee advocacy network. You may not know however, that there are almost 14,000 refugees in Indonesia, hailing from Afghanistan, Iran, Somalia, Sudan, Myanmar, etc. Furthermore, because Indonesia is not a signatory to the 1951 refugee protocol, these refugees have no access to education, health services, or the right to work. Finally, because of the political situation in the US and Australia, refugee resettlement to those two countries has drastically reduced in the past two years, meaning that refugees in Indonesia are looking at a very long 'wait time' — without access to livelihood, education, or health services. The situation is quite grim, but refugees are resilient and resourceful people, and one group of refugees in Jakarta has established a 'learning center' (school), called HELP for Refugees, to provide education and learning services to over 150 refugee students who otherwise would have no access to education of any kind. We have been supporting HELP for Refugees for over a year now, and it would be very meaningful to us if you would join us in that support, by helping this organization provide badly needed educational services to refugee kids in Jakarta.
We will use your funds to cover costs of internet use, educational supplies, transport, utilities, and rent. Every dollar will go directly to HELP after the fundraising is over. The funds will be handed over to them and for those of you who wish to stay involved (we hope you do!), we will be happy to provide a breakdown of the expenses.
Please click here to take a look at their beautifully curated official webpage for more info and pictures.
Love, us
ps: If you'd like to remain anonymous on the donor page, we won't mind. But we'll know who you are ;)
