Many of you know Roberto—devoted husband, proud father of three, and the passionate chef, creator, and soul behind Reeva Cafe y Cocina a la Lena in Portland’s Roseway neighborhood. Over the past several years, Roberto has been diligently working through the complex, costly, and lengthy process of obtaining legal residency. In recent days, during the final stage of this journey, Roberto was called to Ciudad Juarez for his final interview, which he was advised by his legal counsel to attend. Tragically, his reentry to the United States was denied. As a result, Roberto is now stuck in Mexico separated from his home, his family, business, and life here in the United States—a country he has called home for over 20 years.
Roberto’s roots run deep here, and he is a valued member of our community. This unexpected turn of events has shattered his family and friends, and they are still coming to terms with the situation as they try to navigate the uncertain path ahead. We share Roberto’s story today in hopes that we, his community, can alleviate some of that uncertainty by raising funds to go toward legal fees as he appeals his denied immigration and works toward returning to his family. If you can contribute financially or share Roberto’s story, his family and friends would be grateful. Together, let’s bring Roberto home.
