My name is Roberta, and I’m reaching out for help for myself and my family. I am disabled and have faced many health challenges, including surviving both cervical and breast cancer. Last year, I lost my right kidney due to damage from radiation, and I now rely on a walker or cane to get around. Despite these challenges, I do my best to care for my family and stay independent. Driving is one of the few things that helps me feel whole again and manage my depression.
Recently, the transmission in my van failed, and I can’t afford to fix or replace it. Losing my van has made it incredibly difficult to get to my many medical appointments and physical therapy sessions. I also use the van to help my son Michael, who is 45 and lives 40 minutes away. Michael has liver disease and is medically frail, needing frequent hospital visits and tests. He can’t work and is struggling to get disability. I also have another son who lives with me and has Asperger’s—he helps me as much as he can, but he doesn’t drive.
Having a reliable van would mean I could transport my wheelchair and oxygen, get to my appointments, and continue supporting my sons. My husband passed away in 2015 after over 30 years of marriage, and I’m doing my best to keep our family going. Any support is a blessing. We just need a reliable van—it doesn’t need to be new. Your help would mean so much to us.
