My name is Robert, and I am an over-the-road truck driver. I live in my truck for 90 straight days at a time just to keep my family afloat, coming home for only 4 short days to take my fiancée to her medical appointments.
Years ago, an on-the-job injury left me recovering while my fiancée overworked herself to support us. The physical strain broke her body down, triggering life-threatening medical conditions that now require expensive specialists and daily medication. I've been driving a semi ever since to support us, while also covering essential transportation for my stepson, who has severe medical conditions of his own.
The out-of-pocket medical bills have completely wiped us out. Over the last 8 years, I drained every single 401k I had to pay down our massive $250,000 medical debt. Today, we have brought that balance down to exactly $20,000—but the compounding interest is suffocating us.
Recently, the trucking industry took a severe downturn, cutting my weekly take-home pay from $1,700 down to $1,000. Everything I make goes toward basic survival and our vehicle—a used pickup truck with lift steps and heated seats that is a strict medical necessity for my fiancée to physically get to her doctors.
To make matters worse, Medicaid is canceling her current insurance coverage, leaving us to cover treatments ranging from $600 to $2,000 out of pocket. We have canceled every holiday, canceled birthdays, and put our wedding on hold for 8 years just to survive.
I was raised old-school: a man works until he drops to provide. Asking for help doesn't come easy. But we are at a breaking point. Every single dollar raised will go directly toward wiping out this final $20,000 debt so my family can finally breathe.
