Bryan and I (Sasha) write this GoFundMe to support our best man and one of Bryan's lifelong best friends. Robert needs our love and support now more than ever, so we decided it was time to turn to social media and GoFundMe to straight up solicit financial help during this trying time for him. It takes a village and right now he needs a village to rally behind and support him (prayer, love, donations). Please know that Bryan and I are managing the funds received to pay the expenses directly.
Robert's journey starts back in March when he went in for a mass/lesion that had appeared. He found out that it was cancerous, but after weeks of medication, doctor visits, scans, testing, poking, prodding, etc., he just found out that it is Stage 4 Melanoma which has even already spread to his liver and bones.
On Thursday, May 22nd, he had a procedure to remove the lesion and is now healing from that.
Robert has been out of work as directed by his doctors due to all the appointments, the location and pain it brings, and the physicality of the work he does, but also because this will be a long road ahead of fighting and recovery.
In the meantime, monthly bills are still due. Having been out of work the last two months, things have started to pile up. Robert, with the help of friends and social workers, has applied for every possible assistance but keeps being denied. At this point, he needs IMMEDIATE assistance to maintain his housing and car. He has made a partial payment for rent but faces the reality and stress of eviction (with nowhere to go), has struggled to make car payments the last two months, and needs general financial support NOW and for the next few months while income is lacking.
Our goal of $10,000 will pay his rent, car, utilities, and food through September, helping to remove that stressful and worrisome burden. As of now, it's been a crapshoot with insurance and we are still unclear as to what or how much of the medical bills will be covered. If the need arises to cover those bills, we'll adjust the goal accordingly.
This request for help does not come lightly. We know he has had his own share of struggles financially off and on in the past, but this is a completely different story...out of his control. He desires to go back to work, but physically cannot and now really won't be able to for quite a while as he'll likely start chemotherapy treatments soon.
While financial help is the most immediate tangible need, emotional support is just as important. The days are long and the mind wanders. Thinking of all the what-ifs and worrying about the future is not mentally or physically healthy. Robert needs his family and friends to connect with and support him through the hard times, but also to distract him from the ugly part of all of this.
Please consider donating in whatever capacity you are able to. Bryan and I will make sure the money goes where it is needed to cover these living expenses. Robert will be eternally grateful for all the love and support you give.
