My name is Cindy, and I write to you today with a mother’s heart full of hope and urgency.
My precious son Robert, just 15 years old, is battling osteosarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer. His journey has been filled with challenges from the very beginning. At only one year old, Robert entered foster care and moved between homes until, at age five, my husband and I adopted him. From the moment we met him, we knew God had answered our prayers for a child. He blessed us with Robert..a kind, loving, funny boy who enjoys football, video games, youth group, and time with his cousins. Above all, Robert loves Jesus, his Creator.
When Robert was 12, what seemed like a football injury turned out to be osteosarcoma. He endured intensive chemotherapy and shoulder replacement surgery, and by God’s grace, he went into remission for a year and a half. Sadly, the cancer returned, this time spreading to his lungs. Robert bravely went through more chemotherapy and surgery that removed 25% of his lungs.
Two months later the cancer returned again, this time very aggressively. Last month, surgeons attempted to remove tumors from his lungs, but the cancer had grown too rapidly to operate safely. Doctors here in the U.S. have told us there are no remaining treatment options that can save Robert’s life.
But we are not giving up. After prayer and research, we learned of an advanced treatment available in Germany dendritic cell immunotherapy. This promising therapy retrains the immune system to recognize and destroy cancer cells in ways chemo and radiation cannot. It represents real hope for Robert.
The cost of treatment, travel, and lodging is $55,000 an amount not covered by insurance. As a family, we are humbly asking for your help.
Whether through a donation, sharing our story, or lifting Robert in prayer, every act of support means more than words can express.
Robert has never given up—and we will not either. He dreams of sharing his testimony of God’s faithfulness and victory over this battle. With your help, and by God’s healing hand, we believe he can.
From the depths of our hearts, thank you for standing with Robert, with us, and with our Lord in this fight.
With gratitude and love,
Cindy & Derek Ruhl
