My name is Karla Barone Sudhalter and I am creating this GoFundMe for my best friend, Louise DiIulio and her family.

On Thursday, December 22nd, Louise’s father, Robert “D” DiIulio suffered a stroke while finishing up his day as a teacher at St. Eugene’s School in Yonkers, NY, where he’s been a beloved figure for over 28 years.

After getting treated for this stroke at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, he was transferred to Columbia Presbyterian in Manhattan where he unexpectedly suffered a second, larger and incredibly debilitating stroke the very next day. D remained at Columbia Presbyterian in the ICU for a full week under 24-hour care with his wife, Maria, and daughters, Louise and Dianna, who never left his side.

D has continued to make small improvements day by day and as of 12/28/22, he has been transferred out of the ICU and into Columbia’s Stroke Step Down Unit. While we will celebrate the small wins, D has lost some speech function, use of right-side motor skills and more. He will require extensive care and rehabilitation from all of the damage these strokes have caused.

The DiIulio family has a long road ahead of them and we have decided to create this GoFundMe to help offset some of the many medical expenses they face for D's recovery, aiming to get the best care possible.

Throughout his life, D has always put others first. He is always the first one to speak up and lend a helping hand when a family member, a friend, or even a stranger is in need, and he never expects anything in return. Beyond his family, he has touched and changed countless lives over the course of almost 40 years as an educator, coach, and mentor to the children of Yonker’s St. Eugene’s School and the Bronx’s Mt. Carmel School. And he always did it with a smile.

Funds from this campaign will go strictly to D's rehab and recovery from these strokes, and any contribution would be greatly appreciated. D and the rest of the DiIulio Family are the kindest, most generous and most thoughtful people, and they deserve all of the help that they are always willing to give others.
