Help Robert become a Civil Celebrant

Donation protected
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read my crowd-funding appeal.

I am hoping to raise the funds to pay for the NOCN Level 3 certificate in Civil Celebrancy in the UK, and for other associated costs and expenses. The course is in December 2020.

My target is £3,000.00, which seems really big right now!

I have not been working for over a year after working all my life in accounting, and have been especially struggling to find work during Lockdown. A relative suggested I look at Civil Celebrancy and believe I will be good at it. After exploring it online and speaking with one or two I know, I became attracted to it as a vocation. I asked a few friends their thoughts and they were really encouraging. I have been reluctant to ask for help with this, but my friends, family and wider network have been wonderfully supportive and suggested that crowdfunding would be a really good way to raise the funds. So here goes.

Civil Celebrancy is a public facing role that allows people who do not want a religious ceremony (though these can also be used), who are looking to mark and share their life event bespoke with their personal values and meaning.

Public ceremonies are usually used to celebrate people’s lives and are a rite of passage. It is an opportunity for the celebrant to help personalise their celebration; to truly craft a special occasion that is full of joy and laughter, facilitating this in a sensitive, compassionate and supportive way.

Such ceremonies mark a beginning such as weddings, and namings, or allow things to pass, such as funerals, where we seek to remember and express how our lives have been enriched by others.

Sometimes life makes it difficult to find meaning in the things that happen to us, or even reach a point of understanding of what may have happened, or why.

Being able to choose how you wish to mark or celebrate such times is important to people. It is an essential aspect of the Civil Celebrant’s role to listen and ask questions to gain the level of insight and detail required of the people involved. They act as a guide through the various steps of the ceremony with the right balance of respect, humour, and understanding.

I have often seen how some religious services fail to resonate with people and seem so distant from people’s lives. These moments in our lives need to speak to who we are and where we are. We need them to express our aspirations, our joys and our sorrows. They need to clarify our journeys, our values and our connections.

This is why I am drawn to the work, as I am open to all people and take pride in helping people celebrate an occasion. I dislike seeing people struggle to find a meaningful ceremony and having to settle for what feels like the norm. I want to be the go-to for all people. I have always enjoyed helping people, serving them and supporting them.

Thank you for your support, it really does make a very big difference!

A very grateful Robert
