My dad, Robert, was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. He will be undergoing radiation treatments for the next six weeks.
Cancer alone is overwhelming. Then the appointments start filling the calendar. The co‑pays stack up. The bills arrive in the mail, each one a reminder of what insurance won’t cover. And the weight settles in: on top of fighting for your life, you’re expected to pay for the fight. Even with insurance there are still so many costs that fall on him. The financial reality of cancer is hitting hard and fast. Bills are stressful on an ordinary day—when you’re not suddenly forced to confront your own mortality.
On top of this diagnosis, my dad also lives with COPD and emphysema, conditions that make every day more difficult and every breath more precious.
My mom, Kelly, has lived with Multiple Sclerosis for over two decades. She has fought quietly, bravely, and without complaint for years. She supports my dad in every way she can, but MS takes a toll—physically, emotionally, and mentally. She simply cannot take on the physical demands of everything happening around them.
And while they’re trying to focus on his treatment and her health, their home—the place that should be their refuge—needs urgent repairs.
- The windows throughout the house need replacing to keep the home insulated and warm.
- The roof needs repairs.
- There is a leak under the tub that requires immediate attention.
- An old, collapsing shed on the property must be removed.
These are not small tasks. They are not things my parents can physically or financially manage right now.
As we step into a new year, many people feel hope, excitement, and possibility. But for my parents, this new year begins with fear, uncertainty, and a battle they never expected to face.
I’m asking for help—from family, from friends, from anyone in our community who has the ability to lift them up during this incredibly heavy time.
Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward medical expenses and essential home repairs. Your support will give my parents something priceless: the ability to focus on healing, safety, and stability instead of drowning in stress.
Thank you for reading their story. Thank you for caring. And thank you for any support you’re able to give. Your kindness means more to us than words can ever express.
