As Robby's Crew knows, each year we participate in a local Buddy Walk to advocate for Robby and others diagnosed with Down syndrome while promoting inclusion, acceptance, kindness, and awareness. Due to COVID-19, the Buddy Walks have been cancelled in 2020 and 2021.
With the upcoming celebration of World Down syndrome Day (WDSD) March 21st, we have decided to advocate and promote inclusion, acceptance, kindness, and awareness in a different way this year and need your help! Robby and our family are calling upon Robby's Crew and Community for assistance.
Keeping in line with the "Buddy" theme, it is our hope that Robby's Crew and Community will join him in raising money to donate a "Buddy Bench" for the playground at his school, Seaview Elementary, Linwood, N.J.
Why a Buddy Bench? A Buddy Bench on the playground is to foster friendship and promote inclusion and kindness. Buddy Benches are designated areas in which children can go when they want someone to play, or walk and talk with. A child might use the bench for a variety of reasons. Maybe they want to make a new friend(s), their friend(s) isn't at school that day, or they want to play with someone new. Whatever the reason, when someone sits on the Buddy Bench it alerts Buddy's and School Staff that a child is in need of friendship.
A designated Buddy Bench at Robby's school will provide Robby and other children on the playground an opportunity to express that they are looking for a new Buddy or friend. Even if they have difficulty verbally communicating effectively, simply sitting on the bench will express their desire to make a new friend.
We THANK YOU for considering supporting Robby and his Buddy Bench goal.
