Help Rob Schorg Walk Again — Support His Recovery Journey

Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Supporters,

We’re reaching out with open hearts to share our dad and husband Rob Schorg’s story — and to ask for your help as he begins the next chapter of his recovery.

In early April 2025, Rob was rushed to the ER after experiencing hallucinations caused by intense pain medication for severe spinal stenosis, a condition he had been battling since November 2024. While at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, doctors determined that Rob needed urgent spinal surgery at the University of Iowa.

Before a bed became available, Rob tragically lost all feeling from the waist down. Just days later, he underwent emergency surgery in Iowa City. What followed was a grueling journey — both physically and emotionally — through multiple hospitals and rehab centers.

Rob spent over a month at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, where he began intensive therapy. Using a slide board, standing briefly between parallel bars, and pushing through painful physical therapy — he gave it everything he had.

He then transferred to On With Life in Ankeny, Iowa, a specialized neuro-rehabilitation center. With incredible effort, Rob has now mastered the slide board and recently regained slight movement in his toes — a major and hopeful milestone.

And now, on June 26th, Rob is finally coming home.

The Schorgs are incredibly excited to begin outpatient therapy and continue Rob’s rehabilitation journey from home. Doctors are optimistic — giving Rob an 80% chance of walking with assistance within the next two years.

But the road ahead is not easy. Returning home means adjusting to an entirely new way of life — one that requires significant changes and financial investment. The family is now preparing their home to be fully handicap accessible, which involves:

Installing ramps and modifying entryways

Making the bathroom accessible

Purchasing a hospital bed, wheelchair, lift systems, and other essential medical equipment

Covering ongoing therapy and transportation to outpatient care

The Schorgs have always been proud to “figure it out” on their own. Asking for help doesn’t come naturally. But this time, the weight is simply too much to carry alone.

Dawn, Rob’s wife, has had to close her small business — Czech Feather and Down — several times to be by his side. Brittany and Trevor, their children, have taken time off work and traveled to Ankeny, IA every weekend to support and learn how to care for Rob. The emotional and financial toll is growing fast.

Your support can help this family bring Rob home safely, give him a chance to walk again, and ease the burden they’ve quietly shouldered for months.

Whether it’s a donation, a share, or a kind word of encouragement — every bit helps. Your generosity will directly fund medical expenses, home modifications, equipment, and therapy that insurance won’t fully cover.

We also want to take a moment to recognize the incredible support we’ve already received from our family and friends. Your prayers, messages, and helping hands have lifted us up in more ways than we can count. We are forever grateful for your love — it has carried us through some of the hardest days.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing (pun intended) with Rob and our family during this life-changing journey. We are beyond grateful.

With love,
The Schorg Family
