Our beloved Rob has spent his life helping others as a dedicated registered nurse here on the Gold Coast. Now, heartbreakingly, he is the one who needs help.

After living with diabetes for 30 years, Rob’s body has endured more than most of us could imagine. The complications have been devastating — kidney failure, heart failure, loss of nerve feeling, and serious eyesight problems. On Good Friday 2025, our world changed forever when Rob was rushed to hospital and told his kidneys had completely failed. He was started on emergency dialysis immediately and has since been undergoing treatment every second day just to stay alive.

The toll this has taken on him has been immense. Dialysis leaves him weak, exhausted, and often suffering blood pressure crashes and mood changes. The chronic fatigue is overwhelming. Yet, through it all, Rob remains the gentle, loving husband, father, and friend we all adore.

To give him some comfort and dignity, dialysis machines have now been installed at home. My mum is currently training to perform his treatments so that Rob can spend his days in the safety and warmth of his home, surrounded by his family instead of hospital walls.

But while we are fighting to give Rob the care and comfort he deserves, we are also facing a crushing financial battle. Rob has had to give up the career he loved so dearly. He has used all his sick pay and long service leave, and the fight to access his superannuation has been long, stressful, and ongoing. As of next week, he will be on leave without pay. The fear of losing accommodation before anything can come through is weighing heavily on our family — another stress Rob should not have to carry in the middle of this battle for his life.

Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward supporting Rob and keeping a roof over his head while he fights through this devastating chapter. Your kindness will help take away some of the stress and allow him to focus on what matters most: his health, his treatment, and precious time with his family.
