Help Roanin Get Life-Saving Surgery

This GoFundMe is being made on behalf of one of the most amazing horses who has impacted hundreds of lives.

My name is Mary Honora Corke, and I am the owner of City View Equestrian, LLC in Bloomfield, NY. Most people who know me are aware that I spare no expense when it comes to my horses. It's financially a struggle to not cut corners with our lesson horses, but I have always felt that they deserve more care than most due to their job. We have taken endless steps to cover ourselves to make sure there are plans in place for the responsibilities that come along with horses. Insurances, care credits, personal loans, budgeting, etc., are a top priority to avoid having to make life-ending decisions based on finances alone.

Asking for money from friends, family, and the public is not something I am comfortable doing. In the past, I have struggled to accept help from others and often deny it when it regards money. But this time around, it involves a special horse who deserves any and all help offered his direction.

Sir Roanin is the horse of a lifetime. He came into my life as a lesson horse almost 10 years ago by pure chance. He has made many dreams come true. From the show ring champ that any nervous nelly could count on, teaching toddlers to steer and trot, being a therapy horse at the Equicenter, to giving adults their confidence back - this guy does it all. He is kind, he is gentle, he is the horse we wish we could all clone.

At the age of 30, Roanin has continued to defy the odds of nature. Most who meet him cannot believe how old he is. And with the help of Cornell and our vets at GVEC, Roanin has remained comfortable enough to remain a walk, trot, canter, and jumping horse for smaller students.

Late January, Roanin's right nostril began producing a heavy flow of mucus and a rotting smell. This is a common sign of infection. Upon dental work and X-rays, we discovered what we thought was a tooth needing to be removed. He was sent to Cornell for a consult prior to removing the tooth. However, we received news we had not anticipated about the situation.

Given the seriousness of what was discovered on the X-rays, Cornell is unable to provide necessary diagnostics due to specialty equipment being needed in his case. He will need to be sent to Mid Atlantic for a standing CT to help us discover the true source of the issue and dictate the type of surgery he will need. Once decisions have been made, he will return to Cornell for surgery. The total of all these moving parts will be roughly $10,000.

In this situation, his insurance will not cover these circumstances. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide him this service out of pocket at this time due to some other medical needs he needed earlier this year.

Roanin is a thriving, valued, and loved member of the Rochester community. Although his body does not know how old he truly is, the insurance company does and will not value his life over statistics.

Without this surgery, we will only be able to treat Roanin's symptoms with antibiotics. Long term, his body will not be able to support this.

If Roanin has touched your life, please consider helping us extend his!
