After not having it easy herself, my mom has spent most of her life ensuring her 4 daughters made it through OK. And thanks entirely to her love, support and unwavering strength, they did. One is a mother of her own, one is in vet school and the younger two are in business school.
Her dream has always been to own her own home. Now that her kids are taken care of and after years of hard work, including going through nursing school while raising 4 children, that dream finally came to fruition in 2021 when she was finally able to buy her house in Broomfield. She's spent the last few years turning the yard into her safe space, planting trees for each daughter, each grandchild and our late grandpa. She built her own flagstone patio and garden beds. She has 4 chickens, 4 cats, 2 dogs and 80,000 bees that use her yard as a little haven. She harvested her first batch of honey last summer. She finally had the safe space she's always wanted and deserved.
Until November of 2025, when she was sweeping her patio and found 2 hot dogs stuffed with a crystal substance. Fortunately, she found them before her dogs did. They were given to the police and tested positive for methamphetamine. A police report was filed. Without any enemies or conflicts with anyone, we assumed this was a random act of maliciousness and animal cruelty. My mom installed security cameras and surveyed her yard in the mornings for a while before putting it behind her.
Then it happened again on December 26th, 2025. This time we were not so lucky, and my dog ingested one of the hot dogs. He spent 14 hours in the critical care unit at CSU. He ended up being ok, but there is no antidote and all you can do is offer supportive care like fluids and sedatives while they ride out the high, and hope they did not ingest a lethal amount. The investigation was amplified. After discussing it with the neighbors, the only suspect we have is a neighbor who reportedly has a rat infestation in his home and blames my mom for it because of her chickens. They have had 1 interaction since she's lived there and he gave her flowers to plant in her yard. After the second incident, they had one interaction where my mom called him out. A few weeks after that interaction, it happened again.
This time in the front yard. My sister came to pick my mom up for a hike on March 22, 2026. She let her dogs out of her car in the front yard for about 2 minutes while they loaded up to spend the day at Turquoise Lake. We would later see on the ring camera my sister’s dog discretely eat something right next to the driveway. He ended up spending the night at the VEG ER in Boulder for methamphetamine and MDMA toxicity.
In spite of, police involvement and security cameras placed around the perimeter of the house, we have no proof of who is doing this, only a high suspicion. Because of lack of proof there is nothing the police can do.
At this point it is obvious that my mom is being targeted. Again, she is a victim of unprovoked violence. And with no true suspect or anything the police can do, her only option now is to move. To give up the safe space she’s spent her whole life working for and start over.
Starting over will incur an enormous financial burden. Vet bills alone for this ordeal have exceeded $6000. We are at a loss and reaching out for help. Any support you can offer will make a world of difference for our mom, her dogs and cats as they work to rebuild their lives in safety. Thank you for considering a donation and for standing with someone who has spent her life helping others.
