Our beloved goofball, River, was hit by a car this past Sunday evening. The impact broke her front left leg sufficiently enough that a cast will not work and she requires surgery that will include pins and plates. After surgery, she will require rehabilitation. My wife and I found out the hard way our pet insurance was changed from an actual insurance to a "discount" plan, none of which covers the surgery, rehab, prescriptions...etc. The discount, less than 20%, only covers office fees. We are setting this up because the crazy costs for the surgery and rehab are more than we can afford.
River is one of our two dogs, she protects the little Chihuahua and us. She loves the dog park to run in Whittier where she runs around with her friends and goes crazy when we go to the dog beach. She is a big dog compared to our Chi but is a wonder and lovable goof-ball. All funds raised will go directly to the vet bills. For example every two days a bandage change and IV for sedation is $400 until we do the surgery. We have not been given the full cost of the 12 weeks of rehab which will run about $4000. The surgery alone is $5500. IF we are fortunate enough to cover the vet costs or above all proceeds beyond our goal will be donated to Downey Animal Shelter.
We want to say thank you very much to all that have donated. Every.Single.Dollar helps.
I will post receipt copies and track how any funds are spent.
We are hoping to have the surgery next weekend if possible.
Shellie, Zoey, River (especially) and I wish to convey our deepest gratitude. She wants to run again and be herself and YOU are all helping to make this a reality.
