If you know me at all, you probably know about my best friend, River. She is the smartest, friendliest, easy goin’ sweetest little sidekick a person could ever ask for. She’s been all over the country with me, living in a teepee, a semi, a horse trailer, little downtown apartments, and big ranches with room to roam, River girl has been by my side through it all and has never cared as long as we were together.
I would be a a very different man today if I hadn’t stumbled across River girl years ago.

Unfortunately, after 6 months of battling an unknown illness, countless vet appointments with blood work, a barium study, advanced blood panels, medications, dietary changes, supplements, and ultrasounds, we were left with two choices, euthanasia or an emergency exploratory surgery to maybe figure out what’s wrong and save her life because she didn’t have much longer. A smarter man probably would’ve opted for the easy and cheaper route of euthanasia but I am no such man. River went into surgery on 9/29 with a lot of unknowns but we finally have answers and she is off the table and in stable condition this evening. I don’t have much detail but essentially there was a blockage in her intestines that had built up over time and had gone undetected in prior tests but it is now clear. She isn’t out of the woods yet and it will be a long road to recovery but we are all very hopeful.

Asking for any kind of help is very difficult for me, but this is for River girl. I am thankful for anyone who’s been able to meet River or let me talk about her or taken time to look at the pictures I post of her. I am grateful for the help we’ve received from all our friends and family to get where we are today and hope I will be able to continue to share her kind soul with the world.
If all you can do is keep River in your thoughts these next few days, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. If you would like donate to help with the costs of her surgery I will be attaching some links for that. Absolutely anything helps. thank you for taking the time to read about River girl. Please feel free to share.

Sincerely, Cody & River
