My name is Yu Wei and I am helping to raise funds for Ritah, a good friend and teammate, to get to the World Beach Ultimate Club Championships (WBUCC) held in Portugal, 14-19 October 2024. I met Ritah when I moved to Uganda in February this year and quickly learnt about her involvement running local pickup, in club committee, tournament organisation, how she’s been travelling to Kenya to train, as well as saw her passion for growing the sport in Uganda. This is her message.
“I trust you are well. I am Alupo Ritah from Uganda, a talented young frisbee player, playing nationally for my country and club. I am also a coach to junior champions of Rainbow International School teaching the fundamentals and basics of the frisbee sport to the little youngsters.
I learnt frisbee in 2019 at my former university. My passion and love for the game translated into exceedingly great results for me and my team in just a short time. I built a strong track record of winning several valuable player awards both nationally and at the East African regional level. I am a great cutter with strong defensive skills, good handling skills, and a really fast sprinter who has played frisbee for the past 5 years.
I have been selected by a club in Kenya called Kakamega Wolves (@kakamegaultimate) to join their team and play in World Beach Ultimate Club Championships in Portugal in October 2024 however am lacking funds of GBP £1250 to cover team fees, individual fees, accommodation and flights.
As a girl child and sports lady, there have been a lot of bad stereotypes and criticisms from my culture talking me out of pursuing my dreams. I believe I need to stand out and show girls like me that our light and shine must be seen and felt by the world. I believe it’s upon me to challenge these stereotypes and rise against the odds. Your support will give me an opportunity for my talent to cross overseas and for me to pursue my long-awaited dream of playing overseas. I cannot thank you enough!! My joy will be exceedingly overwhelming if I get your support and promise.
Right now Uganda doesn't really participate actively in Beach Ultimate so this will be an opportunity for me to learn a lot of Beach Ultimate Frisbee and come back home and teach the rest I will also start a campaign to promote beach ultimate frisbee in Uganda since we have beaches in Uganda.
Thank you so much.”
-Ritah

Any amount of support will get Ritah closer to WBUCC.
Ritah is also able to accept donations through mobile money in Ugandan shillings and is selling home made peanut butter to raise funds. If sending mobile money, get in touch with Ritah (759880720) and add WBUCC as the reference.
Ritah and I have discussed the possibility that we do not reach the fundraising target, and she is unable to go. We will donate the funds raised to support pick-up, development and club Ultimate scene in Kampala, buying equipment (discs, bibs, cones, agility ladder), pitch hire, a transport budget for people to get to trainings across town and for volunteers to introducing ultimate to local schools. If there are further funds remaining, this would go towards supporting individuals especially students to participate in the 7 Hills Tournament held in Kampala annually. If we manage to raise above the target, we will also donate the extra funds towards these causes.
