Rita Emery is a 68-year-old lifelong resident of Detroit, known for her deep faith and generosity. Despite not having much herself, Rita regularly donated to local churches and has always been a loving mother, grandmother, and soon-to-be great-grandmother. Her kindness and devotion to her family and community have touched many lives.
On March 29 around 8:00PM, Rita was brutally attacked by pit bulls, suffering severe injuries to her arms, neck, and face, and losing two pints of blood. She is now facing a long recovery and will need ongoing support. On top of her medical needs, Rita lives on a fixed income and is struggling with urgent household problems. The main drain for her house is broken, causing backups and making daily life difficult. She needs a secure shed to store lawn equipment and fuel so her son can help maintain the property. Additionally, Rita owns another house on her property that is considered blighted by the city of Detroit. If it isn’t repaired or demolished soon, she could face sizable fines or even lose her property.
Funds raised will go directly toward Rita’s daily living expenses, critical home repairs, and addressing the blighted house to prevent city action. As her son, I am stepping up to support her physically and financially, but I am currently unemployed. If anyone is able to help with a remote position so I can focus on my mother’s care and recovery, it would mean the world to us. Thank you so much for your kindness and support during this difficult time.
