Help Rita Rebuild After Devastating Fire
Donation protected
My mom, Rita, is always giving to others of her time, energy, and money when she can, and sometimes more than she probably should.
She's the person to go to when you need help or advice. Other people's families call her mom or grandma. She's taken care of so very many people over her life and now, unfortunately, she's the one who desperately needs some help.
In April, there was an electrical fire in her home that started in the basement and spread upstairs. Almost everything was lost. So at 76 years old, my mom has to start all over again.
To make matters worse, she had awful insurance.
(1) Her coverage for the cleanup and smoke remediation was $18,500. The cost was over $30,000 and isn't even complete 6 months later.
(2) Her coverage for construction is for actual value and NOT replacement cost. The latter isn't even offered by her carrier. In addition, the "actual value" of items needing repair has been significantly depreciated.
In the end, with cleanup also cutting into the construction budget, the final check cut by the insurance company is $30,000 less than what is needed to complete repairs, which have already been pushed to as little cost as possible.
She's so worried that it's been making her physically ill.
If anyone could please help my mom, any amount would, of course, be greatly appreciated.
