We’re reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for your help for our sweet boy, Ripley.

Ripley is a 2-year-old basset hound with a big personality, even bigger ears, and a heart full of curiosity. We rescued him last summer alongside his 4-year-old basset brother, Winston. They’ve been inseparable since the day Ripley was born — two floppy, loyal best friends who brought joy not only to each other but to our entire family.

Ripley lives on our family farm in New England, where he spends his days chasing scents, snuggling with the other dogs, and making us laugh with his goofy antics. But being a curious and hungry hound got him into serious trouble.

Ripley recently underwent emergency surgery to remove a life-threatening intestinal blockage after swallowing something he shouldn’t have. His condition worsened quickly, and the only option to save his life was an urgent and expensive surgical procedure.

Right now, Ripley is still in serious condition and not out of the woods yet. He’s fighting hard, and we’re doing everything we can to give him the best chance at recovery.

This experience has also opened our eyes to how dangerous common toys and household objects can be for dogs, especially those like Ripley who are curious chewers. We hope Ripley’s story can help bring awareness to other dog owners — a moment of unsupervised curiosity can quickly turn into a medical emergency.

The cost of saving him has placed a huge financial burden on our family. Between our own vet bills and caring for four rescued basset hounds in the past year, this unexpected emergency has pushed us to the limit.

We’re asking for help to cover the $15,000 vet bill for Ripley’s surgery and critical care. Every dollar helps — and every share of this story gets us one step closer to helping Ripley heal and to spreading awareness to protect other pups from preventable harm.

We’re a family of dog lovers and rescuers who believe every pup deserves a second chance — and Ripley deserves to live a long, tail-wagging life with his brother and pack. But we can’t do it alone.
