Help 'Riot' Get Published

Hello everyone.

Have I got some stories to tell you?!

My name is Riot.  I've been through some shit and I need to talk about it!  In fact, I've written a book about it, and need your help to see it published.

My book is a personal mental health journey, centering around the toughest and most exhilarating year of my life.  I had lived with a disorder for nearly 30 years and had no idea until it suddenly manifested, and i snapped!  With people we don't know, we often make assumptions which can be hurtful and non-constructive, but what do you do when someone you love starts acting erratically and goes off the deep end?  My book "Riot - I went psychotic.  Then I wrote this book." is a collection of stories that I believe will benefit everyone: whether you're the one suffering, or someone you know, or someone you haven't yet met.  This book aims to demystify preconceived notions about mental health, the homeless, and drug use.  It aims to empower people to speak up.  And its overarching goal is one of empathy as a human race.

I have discussed my goals with multiple hybrid publishers (responsible for editing, formatting, printing, and publishing) and have been quoted anywhere from $2,000-$10,000 for my project.  The current company I am interested in working with is located right here in Victoria, BC, Canada and has one of the lowest quotes for services.

As well as a creative writer, I am a painter.  And I had no idea how similar the process would feel.  You put down a few strokes, which creates the need for a few more; just as you add a paragraph or a sentence or even a descriptive word, and have to then negotiate its balance within the rest of the piece.  Calling a piece of writing (or a painting) "done" is probably my biggest struggle as a practicing artist.  That being said, this deadline, the hiccups along the way, and the new decision to send out a PDF rather a printed copy has left me much more confident about what the final published version will look like.  There are editors for not only grammar and spelling, but content, flow, and story structure.  There are possibilities of having it printed, but also professionally recorded, distributed, and made available at Amazon and Chapters and Indigo.  There are all these possibilities, but they all require money -up front.

As this collection of stories are 100% true, lived and suffered by me, ANY donation not only feels like a blessing and a step closer to my goal, but it feels like a much deeper sign of support in my life's journey.  I am sharing my toughest hardships and my most embarrassing interactions.  I am sharing a dark piece of myself in hopes of bringing light to others.  And your support is an acknowledgement of this.  So thank you!
