Help Rio get cataract surgery

Hi, my name is Aiste and I am from the UK.

Story: My beautiful dog Yorkshire Terrier Rio is 8 years old and recently he went completely blind. He was diagnosed with diabetes in July 2022, that moment I cried a lot in the vet room… first week with this diagnosis was a nightmare for me my dog and my mental health.

I had to be trained how to use the insulin correctly, needless, and of course put him on the strict diet… change his food routine etc. I did a lot of research about this terrible illness. I found many amazing groups on Facebook who give me the best advise without them I couldn’t make it so thank you guys!

However he was responding very well and living his best life until about two weeks ago when he lost his eyesight… I have learnt that dogs suffering from diabetes can go 100% blind in overnight… It is heartbreaking to see him bumping into things and not be able to see his favourite post man, cats, and not be able to chase the birds anymore, he’s not even interested in playing with his toys or even go for a walks… the anxiety I had that day when he lost his eyesight was unbelievable… A lot of things was coming up to my head… but I had to stay strong for him…I would love Rio to be able to see again that’s my biggest dream and cataract surgery is an option, however, it is really expensive….I don’t have such a huge amount of money…I contacted some vet clinics and the price they quoted me is shocking £3500 per eye, so that’s £7000 for the surgery plus all of the vet visits, medications to treat the eyes after the surgery etc. I am willing to give all of my savings to cover at least something but unfortunately I don't have enough… so I am asking people for help.

I never asked anything in my life... I just want his vision to be back…he’s my life and my shadow. I will do everything to get his eyesight back! I promised this to him on the day when he went blind as he’s really a special dog to me. ❤️

I hope you can help my dog to live his best life again, especially when he’s only 8 years old… I don’t want to leave him in the dark world for the rest of his life…
