A young, intact male dog was dumped near our home and wandered into our yard searching for food. At first, he kept his distance, but over time he felt secure enough to be fed and touched. After about a month, we noticed he had been injured. We were able to load him up and take him to the vet, where he received a rabies shot and an exam. An x-ray revealed his hind leg was fractured in three places, and surgery was scheduled. The vet placed an 11-hole plate and screws in this 75-pound baby. After spending a couple of days in the animal hospital, he is back with us and his bone seems to be healing. However, a culture taken at his post-op visit showed bacteria, so a round of antibiotics has been started.

Ringo joins our full house of other fur babies who stumble onto our land, including eight cats and two other dogs, with a new orange feral cat living in the shed. We are doing our best to care for all of them, but the cost of Ringo’s surgery and ongoing medical care is a challenge. We want to give him the best chance at a happy, healthy life after everything he’s been through.
