Help Riley Get the Medical Treatment He Needs

Eight years ago, I went with my mother to check on a litter of puppies, not far from her home. Upon arrival, it was clear that several dogs were being excessively bred, and horribly mistreated. It was that day that I locked eyes with an endearing, tiny little pup. It may sound silly, but I knew he was meant to be in our lives. We left that day with one of the mothers, who had sadly lost her babies, and the puppy.
We named him Riley.
The mother, Emma, was adopted by a loving woman shortly after.
For three years, Riley lived with my mother. With each visit, I would eagerly await his enthusiastic greeting. We were kindred spirits. So much so, that when my mother could no longer care for him, I insisted he come home with me. He joined me, as I embarked on a move across the country. We grew together, became braver. When the entire world shut down, we sought solace in each others company. I had never truly understood the impact a pet could have on one’s life, until Riley entered mine. He was, and is, my little canine soulmate.
Recently, Riley was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. This news has been devastating. That said, with proper management and treatment, there is still hope that he can live a full and happy life - leading me to why I’m here. I have always been a proud, private person. In all honesty, there have been times I’ve been skeptical of sites such as this one. Looking back, I feel foolish. It is amazing how brave people can be. Asking for help, admitting you need help, is brave.
I am creating this fund, to best provide the care that Riley needs. The first step is meeting with a specialist, to try to find the source of what’s causing his kidneys to rapidly expel what his body requires to survive. There will be ongoing testing, monitoring, and medical treatment. Though I’m currently looking into health insurance for him, time is a massive factor, and veterinary care is costly.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I understand times are difficult right now, so even prayers, well wishes, positive vibes - whatever you believe in - will help tremendously.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. And to anyone going through something difficult, whether related to illness or simply life circumstances - I am sending love your way.
Lastly, some fun descriptors of Riley...
- Equally as cautious as he his courageous
- Barks and protects against large inanimate objects
- Prefers barreling through dense terrain over walking on cement
- Loves sniffing peoples toes
- Has human eyes
