I’ve fought for every step of my transition—from being kicked out at 16 to putting myself through surgery while disabled and surviving homelessness. Now, I’m closer than ever to finishing my journey—but I can’t do this part alone. Hi, my name is Riley. I’m a 29-year-old trans man raising funds for bottom surgery—something I’ve been working toward for over a decade. I was kicked out at 16 and still managed to stay in school, become captain of my swim team for two consecutive years, and graduate while taking advanced and AP classes. I turned 18 during swim season, so I had to wait until it ended before I could begin my transition—but as soon as it did, I started testosterone and began living as myself. With the support of my grandmother, I was able to legally change my name and gender marker. She stood by me through some of the most important moments of my life, including my early transition and recovery from top surgery. She has since passed, but her support is something I carry with me every day. I paid for my top surgery completely out of pocket—I frequently worked two jobs, even before I turned 18, to save for it. It took everything I had, and it’s something I’ll never forget. Later, I had a hysterectomy with the support of close friends. But my health declined, and I eventually became too disabled to continue school or work, even with the accommodation of a service dog. This led to a period of homelessness with my dog by my side. Today, I finally have stable housing, support from my brother, and a sustainable income—but I live on disability, and I cannot afford the final stages of my transition alone. Bottom surgery happens in multiple stages just a few months apart, and even the first stage comes with costs I can’t cover. The second stage follows shortly after, making it difficult to recover financially in between, and later stages will add additional costs Im not able to manage on my own. I’ve fought for every step to get here. Im asking for help to finish this journey. If you can donate or share, it truly means everything.
