We are the team behind Sunny Express Vegan Mexican Chinese, a small business in Compton built on love, community, and the joy of sharing good vegan and nonvegan food. If you’ve ever visited us, you’ve likely met Rigo—our beloved colleague, business partner, and the heart of our restaurant. His warmth, kindness, and cheerful spirit have touched countless lives. He’s the one who remembers your name, your favorite dish, and always makes you feel like family.

Today, we’re coming together as a team and a community to support Rigo through the most difficult chapter of his life.

Rigo’s father, the man who raised him with love and devotion, has been diagnosed with multiple aggressive cancers: blood, lung, and most recently, brain cancer. Doctors have given him only a few days to live. He is currently on life support, but the hospital has informed the family that it will soon be removed. The heartbreak is unimaginable.

His father’s final wish is to be laid to rest in his homeland of Mexico, but due to his condition, he cannot travel. He will pass away here in the U.S. Rigo and his mother are his only family, and they are now facing the emotional and financial burden of arranging a proper funeral and transporting his body to Mexico.

Though not his biological father, this man was Rigo’s true dad in every way that matters. Their bond was unbreakable. He raised Rigo with love, taught him values, and stood by him through every stage of life. Now, Rigo is devastated, not only by the impending loss, but by the fear that he won’t be able to fulfill his father’s final wish.

Somos el equipo detrás de Sunny Express Vegan Mexican Chinese, un pequeño negocio en Compton construido con amor, comunidad y la alegría de compartir buena comida vegana y no vegana. Si alguna vez nos has visitado, probablemente conoces a Rigo, nuestro querido colega, socio y el corazón de nuestro restaurante. Su calidez, amabilidad y espíritu alegre han tocado innumerables vidas. Es quien recuerda tu nombre, tu platillo favorito y siempre te hace sentir como en familia.

Hoy, nos unimos como equipo y comunidad para apoyar a Rigo en el capítulo más difícil de su vida.

El padre de Rigo, el hombre que lo crió con amor y dedicación, ha sido diagnosticado con varios tipos de cáncer agresivo: en la sangre, los pulmones y, más recientemente, en el cerebro. Los doctores le han dado solo unos días de vida. Actualmente está conectado a soporte vital, pero el hospital ha informado a la familia que pronto será retirado. El dolor es indescriptible.

El último deseo de su padre es ser enterrado en su tierra natal, México, pero debido a su condición, no puede viajar. Fallecerá aquí en Estados Unidos. Rigo y su madre son su única familia, y ahora enfrentan la carga emocional y financiera de organizar un funeral digno y trasladar su cuerpo a México.

Aunque no era su padre biológico, este hombre fue el verdadero papá de Rigo en todos los sentidos que importan. Su vínculo era inquebrantable. Lo crió con amor, le enseñó valores y estuvo a su lado en cada etapa de la vida. Ahora, Rigo está devastado, no solo por la pérdida inminente, sino por el temor de no poder cumplir el último deseo de su padre.
