Help Riggs After Losing Rachel

This GoFundMe has been set up to raise money for Riggs - the sweetest yellow lab mix who lost his owner far too soon. Rachel Edwards passed away at the age of 28, and was loved dearly by family, friends, and of course, Riggs. Rachel rescued Riggs from Palmetto Paws Animal Rescue in 2019 when he was just 7 weeks old. They shared an amazing 5+ years together living and playing on the coast of South Carolina. Rachel loved Riggs with all her heart and it was obvious that she meant the world to Riggs.

Riggs has experienced a great deal of trauma since losing his beloved Rachel. He witnessed her passing and he refused to leave her side. He was taken to a shelter where he was scared and alone. Thankfully, one of Rachel’s friends was able to locate Riggs and give him a new home. He was in horribly rough shape from the shelter. He was covered in his own urine and feces, as well as extremely frightened, confused, traumatized, and aggressive. Luckily he was in good hands and after some time he learned to trust his new friend and was given a bath and a quiet home where he could get some much needed sleep.

Riggs was brought to the wonderful and generous doctors and staff at Daniel Island Animal Hospital where he was given a full exam free of charge. We are so thankful for these amazing folks who helped give Riggs the care he needs, and they did it out of the kindness of their hearts. They found he had fleas, a skin infection, as well as ear infections in both ears. He is on daily medications and getting better day by day.

The tough part about Riggs is that he has a history of aggression and it takes him some time to trust others. This means that any time he has to see a vet, he needs to be given multiple anti-anxiety/sedative medications before he can be seen. The price of these medications quickly adds up. Throw that on top of the cost for an exam, vaccines, monthly preventatives, etc. and you’ve got yourself a hefty vet bill. Thankfully Daniel Island Animal Hospital has generously covered the initial cost of getting Riggs back to 100%. But we are fully aware that there will be future visits that will be costly.

Every dollar raised from this GoFundMe will go towards Riggs’ future vet bills, food, toys, supplies, as well as a trainer to work with Riggs on his behavior and to be less aggressive. He truly is such a sweet dog who will cuddle in bed with you all night and loves getting tons of pets. Unfortunately he’s just been through a lot recently and like all of us, he is mourning the loss of Rachel.
