Help Ricky to reunite with his father and mend his heart!

Hello everyone! My name is Jose, but you can call me Ricky, and my family’s story is quite the insane one.

My father was deported when I was about 10 or 11, which changed the lives of my sister, my mother, and my own forever in unmeasurable ways. So much has happened to him since then and it seems never-ending—this past year alone, my father donated his own kidney to save the life of his current partner. His sister went missing and we still don’t know if she’s alive. And mi abuela, my father’s mother, got very sick and became bedridden last year. I tried to do an emergency visit back in November, but it was too late and mi abuela passed away before I got the chance to see her.

I want to be there not just to support my father, but to also offer some closure for all the challenges and losses that he’s had in a short span of time. Although we have an extremely complex relationship, there is still love being felt for each other.

Having and continuing to navigate the US immigration system, I just received special permission to travel to Mexico, but I’ve been given a very limited time window to travel, and so I must go very soon. I have not gone back since I was a literal baby and I currently only have 1 living grandparent who is almost in his 90s (I never had the chance to see the others in Mexico), so this would be even more special if I can visit everyone, meet all my other families, and pay my long-overdue respects.

This is my explicit ask to you: to help me cover the expenses of my trip, legal fees, and whatever else may come. My sister will be traveling with me to support, so I need to consider at least two flight tickets. Looking at current price tickets and other costs, I may need at least $3000 to cover what needs to be covered, though this is a very loose estimate and does not include taxes and unforeseen expenses.

Any funding you could provide would be immensely appreciated. If you cannot contribute, that’s okay! Spreading the word in your pages/stories, circles, and networks you trust would make me super grateful. I have a chance to at least mend some of the immense damage the systems in place has caused us now, if only a little, through visiting my Pa and my ancestors.
