I first met Ricky through our high school alumni assistance program, SAFE (St Augustine Fund for Emergencies), where I serve as one of the administrators. Ricky applied for a grant as he had not been able to work after having a stroke. The medical expenses during that ordeal had drained Ricky's resources in an instant.

The day I spoke to him while reviewing his grant application, I learned something that broke my heart— on that very day, he literally had no money left to put food on the table for his family.

Thanks to SAFE, we were able to provide him with immediate support.

From my first conversation with him, he had shared his biggest wish after recovery: to find a job so he can provide for his loved ones with dignity and stability and be able to pay for his medication.

I and others in our network have been trying to spread the word to help him find employment, but so far to no avail. So, today, I’m reaching out to a wider circle of kindhearted people.
