Hello, I am Kapri Hairl.

My dad (Ricky Whigham) is currently battling not one, but two cancers — lung cancer and prostate cancer. This isn’t his first fight, but as he’s gotten older, the battle has become much harder on his body and spirit.

March 17th changed our lives in ways we never expected. What we thought would be a step toward recovery quickly turned into a series of complications. During surgery, my dad suffered additional challenges that have made this fight even harder.

He now has a paralyzed vocal cord — before surgery, he could speak and communicate normally, but now you can barely hear his voice. He will need another procedure just to try to restore something as simple as speaking.

On top of everything, my dad also suffered a broken rib that required a plate to be put in. He is still dealing with fluid buildup that will need to be drained, adding even more procedures and recovery time to an already overwhelming situation.

We were originally told he wouldn’t need chemotherapy, but now he has to start treatment immediately.

Because of all of this, work has stopped, and life as we knew it has been put on hold. The emotional and financial weight of everything happening at once has become overwhelming.
