Help Ricky and his family fight COVID-19
Hi everyone, I am here merely to get the word out and have an efficient way for us to come together. Many of you are just finding out that our amazing Ricky has fallen extremely ill from COVID-19. He has been working at BJ's in Burbank since August 2000. During that time he has been a loyal hardworking friend and teammate. If you are not personally friends with Ricky, then just know that you are missing out! He has the kindest soul and has the most beautiful family.
Both his wife and him fell ill with COVID-19. Ricky was hospitalized, and while in the ICU was put on a ventilator. Now he is home continuing to struggle with pneumonia. He has a long road ahead before he is able to carry around 50 lb bus-tubs in a 5,000 square foot restaurant for 8 hours. Health insurance is a tricky mess already, made worse by the shut downs and being furloughed every few months. Restaurant work is hard, but I, personally, have never been more grateful for my health. When his wife was asked what they needed... homemade meals? errands run? babysitting? Her reply was, "All we need is for him to get better."
I want to surprise his family by having us as a community come together for our own. Us servers, cooks, managers, food runners, dishwashers, takeout, and hosts work side by side, in the weeds, every week! We have each others back then and we need to have each other's back now.
I appreciate, more than ever, the people that I have in my life on a daily bases, the people that affect my energy. Ricky is someone that would bring me trail mix on my long Friday shifts, and tell me happy birthday, when it wasn't even my birthday, just to cheer me up! Many of us have been asking what we can do to help and this is the perfect way for us to show support to him and his family! We also know that financial burdens make it that much harder for people to recover. If it is a matter of money, take my wallet! Please help with any little bit you can. Together we are always stronger and I want, more than anything, for Ricky to get back to full health and share more happy memories!
