Help a Father and Daughter Avoid Eviction
I never thought I would be in a position where I’d have to ask for help like this. As a father, my responsibility is to protect and provide for my daughter, and right now I’m struggling to do that on my own.
January 2024 my department was eliminated and I’ve been snagging nothing but temp/contract jobs. I am unemployed and have no income at all.
We currently owe $6,000 in back rent, and we are at risk of entering the eviction process very soon. On top of that, our phone bill is $245 per month, which is our only way to stay in contact with potential employers, the courts, and assistance programs. Losing that connection would make an already difficult situation even worse.
I have applied for unemployment and state benefits and now have scheduled hearings to appeal denied applications. I’ve been applying everywhere I can — including part-time and fast-food jobs — but responses are few and far between. Too often, employers never call back at all, even after repeated applications.
It’s incredibly humbling and painful to be in this position. I’m embarrassed to ask for help, but we have no family or friends who are able to assist us. This fundraiser is truly a last resort. All I want is to keep a safe, stable home for my daughter while I continue doing everything possible to get back on my feet.
Any funds raised will go directly toward back rent, food, and our phone bill, helping us avoid eviction and allowing me to continue job searching and attending required hearings.
If you’re able to help in any way — even by sharing this fundraiser — it would mean more than I can express. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for any kindness you’re able to offer.
With sincere gratitude,
Ricky
