HELP SEND RICHIE TO SCHOOL
Dear Friends, I have been invited to a screenwriter’s retreat in Tuscany from April 15 to May 5th. It is an honor and may help me finally see production of a project I have been working on for three decades, COMES LOVE. But it won’t be cheap. I need to raise about 5 - 6 thousand Euros to cover tuition, housing and transportation by mid-October. I plan to enter Italy using my Bulgarian passport which was granted after a Fulbright year at the American University. And I’d like to visit Stoimen Stoilov in Varna and some other friends in Italy along the way.
COMES LOVE has taken awards at five film festivals, most recently at the Hollywood Dreams Festival in Las Vegas. I’m still pursing the possibility of production of a film with the directors. But this retreat will help me perfect the 90-page script, character descriptions, two-year breakdown of a tv series with 6 episodes each year. Attached is a short synopsis of the plot. I’ll be happy to share much of the “pitch package” I’ve been asked to develop as you may wish.
This will be an excellent opportunity to meet other like-minded artists, perfect my work, and visit friends I haven’t seen in Europe in far too long.
Any contribution you may be able to make to this project will receive a copy of my new book, PLAGUE POEMS: 2020 VISION. And if I finally to hit the jackpot with this film, I plan to return any money that has been contributed to this project. So, there it is. I am not shy about asking for help. The story is inspired by E.M. Forster’s last book, MAURICE which was made into a beautiful film by Merchant and Ivory, though my tale is set in Ireland and the US. It is a lifelong work, and a worthwhile endeavor. I hope you will find the means to lend a hand.

COMES LOVE: SHORT SYN0POSIS
Liam Quinn and Alastar Murray meet at Trinity College in Dublin and become
friends despite the differences in their backgrounds. As time goes by, they
become sexually attracted to each other, but can’t bring themselves to act on
their desires. Alastar marries to preserve his social standing and Liam struggles
to maintain a Platonic relationship as a friend of the family. But, Liam accepts
his sexual orientation and fulfills all his sexual fantasies with a young game
keeper working on Alastar’s estate, Tosh O’Brien. They decide to expatriate to
America to find a new life and take up residence in a bachelor hotel where
many of the tenants are homosexual. Tosh’s fine tenor voice and good looks
make him successful in vaudeville. Liam does good work at the bank under the
tutelage of Mark Hatfield, the manager assigned to his training. Mark is
married to Vivien, daughter of wealthy NY socialite, but he lives a secret life
as a transvestite and is not able to produce the grand child Gloria is
demanding. They convince Tosh to act as a surrogate father and in time, a son
is born named for his godfather, Liam. Gloria arranges for Tosh to play the
cowboy hero, Black Jack Harte in the Hollywood film, DARK RIDER. Liam is
heartbroken to see Tosh leave for California, but he realizes this is a great
opportunity for his friend. He promises to be a good Godfather and help look
after the baby Lee until Tosh returns to their life together. Tosh marries Cheri
to keep his fans from gossip about his homosexual life with Liam. Tosh falls into a
decadent life in Hollywood and convinces his starlet wife to sleep with Lee to
bring him into manhood. Cheri becomes pregnant and drives Liam and Tosh
further apart. Liam takes over Lee’s upbringing when Mark and Vivian die in the
Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918. Lee is accepted at Princeton and upon graduation
becomes an air force pilot as WWII approaches. In a trip to Ireland to find his real
grandparents, he meets Alastar’s Murray’s daughter, Catherine and falls in love.
Liam returns to Ireland as well to make peace with his dying mother. Alastar’s
wife has died in the sinking of the Leinster in Dublin Harbor and he has lost a leg
in the battle of the Some. But he has kept in touch with Liam over the years and grows
to accept his sexual orientation with the help of a nurse/orderly who has come into his
life after the amputation of his leg. Liam seeks out Alastar and they rekindle their
love as the clouds of war threaten their newfound happiness and that of their children.
