Help Richard Stay Safe at Cancer Treatment Appts
Donation protected
Unfortunately, more and more healthcare settings are relaxing their mask requirements, including the cancer centers where I'm currently receiving treatment. I always wear the best mask available to me, but for extended exposure one-way masking doesn't do nearly as much to reduce the risk of infection as two-way masking.
When you add in the fact that a significant percentage of COVID-19 infections are taking place in healthcare settings and my need to spend extended periods of time in those settings, my risk of infection has suddenly increased a huge amount.
In order to mitigate that risk, I'm hoping to start using a PAPR, or Powered Air-Purifying Respirator when I'm in those settings. A PAPR forces any incoming air through very high level filters before the user breathes it in, ensuring that the air arriving in the attached hood is as clean as possible. The problem is that PAPRs are very expensive, running a few thousand dollars, which is currently outside of our budget.
