On Tuesday, March 17, our dear friend Richard’s life changed in an instant. While trying to do the right thing and obtain his driver’s license, he was detained due to improper documentation after a DMV employee contacted law enforcement. What should have been a simple step toward responsibility turned into a heartbreaking situation.

Richard was first taken into custody at Spanish Fork Jail, and within a day, he was transferred to Tooele County Jail, where he is currently being held as he awaits pickup from ICE.

Anyone who knows Richard knows the truth about who he is. He is not a criminal. He is a kind, hardworking individual who has always placed the needs of others before his own. He is a deeply caring person who would never harm anyone. He is someone who always shows up for others, who loves his family fiercely, and who is always willing to lend a helping hand.

Right now, he is scared, uncertain, and far from the people who love him. To see someone so genuine and good hearted endure such hardship is profoundly painful.

Richard is not only emotionally central to his family he is also a vital source of financial support. His absence has created an immediate and significant strain, leaving his family facing both emotional and financial uncertainty during an already heartbreaking time.
