Help Richard Carter with Urgent Medical Bills

Donation protected

UPDATE: It's been several months since I posted this request for donations. I can happily share that your donations fully covered Richard's knee replacement sugery and he has make a remarkable recovery! How incredible!!! We are both

humbled and grateful for everyone's generosity.

Unfortunately, after being out of work and attending physical therapy for 8 weeks, Richard is still struggling to catch up with bills. If you know Richard, you know how much he does for his community and the John C Campbell Folk School. His kind heart is like a welcoming hug that I wish you could all feel the way I do.

I realize that things are hard for all of us right now, but humbly ask that if you can help at all, please do. You can donate to this account, or if you wish to avoid the minor fees, you can drop donations off at the JCCFS office, or private message me.

Hi, I'm Angela and I'm asking for your help to raise funds to cover my dear friend Richard (aka Rick) Carter's medical bills. Chances are, if you receive this, you already know Richard. If you do, I know without a doubt that you love him as I do. If not, let me tell you that he is undoubtedly one of the most kind-hearted and supportive people you could ever hope to meet. In the two short years I have known him, he has been a friend, father-figure, and figurative and literal mentor to me.

Richard has accumulated some recent medical bills, one of which is urgent, pertaining to an upcoming knee replacement surgery, as well as others. He has had many struggles over the years, yet remains humble enough to refuse to ask for help. However, his pride doesn't get in the way of graciously accepting help when it is offered. He is a widower, a proud father, grandfather, and doting great-grandfather who helps support a multigenerational family of 5 in his home. Please help me help Richard.

My goals are based on the following:

URGENT NEED:

$2800 required upfront by Dec. 3rd for knee replacement surgery.

Remaining funds raised will cover 2 things:

1) Lost wages from work. (He cannot perform landscaping duties or use power tools in the shop while using a walker or cane.)

2) He recently had to finance $5500 for new hearing aids.

If you prefer to donate using cash or checks, you can either PM me and I can give you details on how to donate directly to his bank in Hayesville, or you can bring them to the John C. Campbell Folk School Craft Shop, or Scroggs Shoppe in Brasstown. Finally, I am willing to meet up with you outside of business hours. Final disclaimer: this fundraiser is not a Folk School sanctioned event, but they are aware and supportive of my efforts as Richard has been a beloved member of the Folk School family for over 30 years.
