Please Help Rich and Lindsay Get Their Lives Back on Track

Hello and thanks for taking a minute to read this. What many of you know is that our dear friend Richard Becker (Rich, Bubba, Puff) is getting a kidney transplant thanks to Don Roland, a childhood friend, both of whom were raised in Eastchester, NY.

Here’s where you come in:

You are receiving this because you have the ability to be an angel here on earth, by helping bring Rich and his daughter Lindsay back from the brink of more tragedy. Details on how you can help in a bit, but first here’s Rich and Lindsay’s story which allows the fortunate of you to be in a position to earn your wings.

What many of you may not know about are the events leading up to Rich being put on dialysis.

In Oct of 2019 Rich left NC one weekend to return to Eastchester for his 35th H.S. reunion. He flew in early and saw many of his friends at a restaurant the evening before their big event. Rich left dinner early that night after feeling ill and had friends help take care of him back at the hotel room. On the evening of the reunion Rich lay in the hotel bed as his classmates called to check in.

The following morning as Rich was set to fly home, he received a call from his then 15-year-old daughter telling him that Eileen, Lindsay’s mother and Rich’s wife, had unexpectedly passed away that morning. Rich somehow summoned the strength to get home for Lindsay, however he was getting worse medically. That week Eileen was laid to rest, and our friend was told his kidneys had failed and that he needed to start hemodialysis immediately.

For the past 95 weeks Rich has been waking up at 4am on Mon, Wed, and Fri to have 3-5 hours of hemodialysis through his vein access. The hole left in their family by Eileen’s loss was only filled by the necessary three times a week dependency on the dialysis ward to keep Rich alive. Rich, like all of us, had to struggle with the pandemic. However, in our friend’s case it involved the risk of going to less-than-ideal dialysis centers, and praying not to get sick, or worse, for Lindsay’s sake.

Fast forward to now and how you are needed to save the day… Rich and Don are entered in the Wake Forest Transplant Program. Since they’re not blood matches, Don will donate his kidney into the national registry in October, and Rich will go to the top of the list to receive a matched living donor kidney thereafter.

This is where YOU come in. Over the last 22 months Rich and Lindsay’s lives have been turned upside down between their loss and Rich’s illness. Rich hasn’t been able to find steady work due to his health and the dialysis time commitment. Medical expenses, caretaking, transportation, taxes, and Lindsay’s needs are some of the large financial concerns Rich has, just as he’s supposed to start preparing for his life changing surgery.

At this time, we are asking for your financial help to turn a Father and Daughter’s lives around. After two years of life’s toughest challenges, you can help provide a way out. Please consider donating whatever you can to help with this worthy cause for a friend we all love so dearly. We have 30 days to reach our goal of $50,000. Time to get your wings. Your help will be so greatly appreciated.
