Help Ricardo Yancey Bring His Book to Life

Welcome! My name is Ricardo Yancey Jr. and I am the writer and illustrator of the award-winning children's picture book, My Best Friend Granny. I'm looking to adapt it into an animated short film with your help and support. The story from the book focuses on the special bond between a sweet boy and his granny, following all the fun adventures and activities between them. The bond they form and the connection they have is one that will live on forever.

Just a quick backstory about the book, it focuses on the special bond I had with my grandmother who raised me. I come from a single parent household in Durham, North Carolina. My mother worked 2 jobs, and my father wasn’t around. So, it was always Granny to the rescue. She was not only my hero, most importantly she was my best friend. This book and film is my tribute to her.

This is where I hope to get your support. Black/African American families have the highest percentage of grandparents living at home with their grandchildren providing childcare. You really don’t see very many (if any) animated shorts that focus on that topic, and I truly feel that this project is one of a kind. Plus, it’s an opportunity to showcase Black/African American characters in animation.

To get a project like this off the ground, many resources are needed. Your kind donation will help with the production of the film and film festival submission fees. Thank you in advance!
