On March 15, Ricardo was rushed by ambulance due to a serious infection. What began as a medical emergency became life-changing: after fighting the infection, he underwent a partial amputation of his lower left leg.

He has had a long health journey, including a previous battle with blood cancer that severely attacked the nerves in both of his legs.

Right now, Ricardo is focused on healing, adjusting, and has begun the long road of rehabilitation . But while recovery is demanding enough on its own, the financial pressure has continued to build. He has been unable to work since March 15, and he now has significant bills coming due at the same time he is facing medical, mobility, transportation, and day-to-day living costs.

We are creating this fundraiser to help relieve that pressure so Ricardo and his wife, Ferron, can focus on recovery instead of wondering how they are going to keep up.

Funds raised will go toward practical, immediate needs, including:

  • securing a new home that is more suitable to his needs
  • retrofitting bathrooms and living spaces to accommodate his needs
  • prosthetic or rehabilitation-related expenses not fully covered by benefits or insurance
  • prosthetic supplies that are not covered (liners, sleeves, specialty socks -- all of which are needed to make wearing a prosthetic possible and as comfortable as possible)
  • paying for essential bills and upcoming bills that outpace his disability insurance
  • rent payments
  • utilities and phone bills
  • groceries and basic household needs
  • transportation to medical and rehabilitation appointments

These costs may seem light, but will total close to $30,000.

Every donation will go directly to Ricardo. I am organizing this fundraiser with his permission, and he is the beneficiary and funds will transfer directly to him.

If you know Ricardo, you know this is not someone who asks for help easily. But this is one of those moments where community matters.

A donation of any amount helps create breathing room during a very hard season. If you are not able to give, sharing this fundraiser with a personal note would also mean a lot.

Thank you for helping Ricardo move through this next chapter with support, dignity, and less financial fear.
