Supporting Ricardo and His Family
Our beloved lifeguard Ricardo has long been the steady, reassuring presence at Orinda Park Pool. Many of us know him as the rock of our summer community, but he is also the rock of his family here in Northern California and back home in Jamaica.
This September, Ricardo’s father passed away peacefully in his sleep. Ricardo was incredibly close with his dad and made sure he was well cared for as he aged. He had planned to travel to Jamaica to see him as soon as the OPP season ended, but heartbreakingly, he did not get the chance to visit one last time.
In Jamaica, it is customary to hold a delayed celebration of life and funeral, so although we encouraged Ricardo to go home immediately, he chose to stay through the end of the season to finish strong for our community. His dedication speaks volumes about who he is.
Now, Ricardo and his family will be traveling to Jamaica on the day the pool closes to honor his father with a proper service. Travel for his family and arrangements in Jamaica will come with significant expenses, and many of you have already asked how you might help. Some members have generously contributed directly to Ricardo, and we are so grateful for that kindness.
We are starting this GoFundMe to give everyone in our community the opportunity to support Ricardo and his family during this difficult time. Every donation—large or small—will help defray the costs of travel and the celebration of life for his father.
Thank you for any kindness and generosity you are able to share, or for contributions you may have already made directly. As Ricardo often says: “One Love”.
With gratitude,
