About Me

To introduce myself to those who might not know me personally, my name is Riane (pronounced Ryan), and I grew up on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi but found myself moving 1,500 miles to attend Tufts University in Boston. I graduated from Tufts in 2019 with a BA in History (concentration in women’s studies), and I currently work full-time at a general contracting firm in Massachusetts as the Assistant Estimating Coordinator. As you can tell, my career path has been anything but normal.

Growing up in a single-parent household where financial survival was more important than finding your passion, I continue to find myself in an endless world of possibilities. Graduating as a first-generation college student from a top-tier university in Boston gave me the skills and work ethic never to stop challenging myself and growing into the person I am proud of.

I’ve worked hard to figure out what it is that makes me happy and excited to wake up in the morning. As of recently, it’s been home DIY projects that challenge me to think about how to create and change spaces in which people work, visit and live. I realized throughout the pandemic that the spaces which we inhabit are extremely important and fundamental to who we are as humans. This is how I found myself exploring the world of Interior Architecture/Design.

How Did I Get Here?

My work in the construction field provided me the resources to network with a variety of subcontractors, architects, and engineers and valuable insight into the building process from start to finish. What’s more, my interest in making spaces functional and unique along with my hobbies for DIY projects and organization has brought me satisfaction and happiness during this past quarantined year (see bottom for photos of DIY home projects I've accomplished on a tight budget).

Since realizing that my work and my passion are not of two different worlds, I’ve decided to push myself even further and pursue a Master’s in Interior Architecture/Design starting in the Fall of 2022. Preceding this journey, I’ve decided to seek out opportunities that would give me the resources, skills, and tools to prepare me, which is how I have decided to take a Portfolio Development Workshop at Suffolk University and to learn the other skills through various online websites.

About the Program

The Portfolio Development Workshop is offered at Suffolk University in Boston. It will be offered this summer in 2 sessions. This workshop will introduce me to the world of design and develop a portfolio-worthy to use in later admissions to graduate programs. It will also allow me to build and foster relationships with faculty, students, and other interior designers who could potentially assist me in my future career. If you’d like to learn more about the specifics of the program, please visit the webpage here.

I have also been looking into how to further my education in other non-traditional ways. I have decided to include premium annual subscriptions to Skillshare and LinkedIn Learning in my list of resources. Skillshare has hundreds of classes and workshops that would be beneficial in learning and polishing my design skills. LinkedIn Learning not only gives me the same possibility as online courses and workshops, but it also allows me instantly to put it on my resume to show the world my hard work and dedication. Why Your Donation Matters

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read and consider donating to help fund my Interior Design exploration and education. As I’ve learned more and more every day, it takes a village to continue to grow, and none of this could happen without some help from you. If you want to chat more about any of this, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

Photos/Videos

I have an Instagram page (@riarrange) where I post DIY project videos. It's fairly new, but there is a new video up of me giving my roommate's closet a complete makeover. Feel free to visit, like, share, comment, etc.

I decided I needed a makeover for my bedroom at the beginning of 2021. This was completed on a small budget using a lot of DIY woodworking/painting.

Our living room has always been one of the proudest statements in our apartment. We wanted it to be colorful, comfortable, and relaxing. We had our living room done before even moving into our apartment almost a year ago.
